About Darren
Darren’s passion for veterinary medicine began at the age of fifteen while working in Pennsylvania at a veterinary practice as a kennel assistant. As his interest for the veterinary field expanded, so did his roles within the field. Darren’s background is extensive and ranges from animal rescues to wildlife rehabilitation to equine husbandry and more. He became particularly enthusiastic for exotic animal welfare, which resulted in him doing multiple pre-veterinary internships at various zoos and aviaries throughout the United States.

Darren’s enthusiasm for veterinary medicine led him to the United Kingdom, where he attended the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduating from veterinary school in 2013, Darren remained at the University of Glasgow an additional year to pursue a MSc in Quantitative Methods in Biodiversity, Conservation and Epidemiology. After receiving this certification, Darren joined a private small animal and exotic practice while also completing a MVetSCi in Conservation Medicine through the University of Edinburgh. Darren received a Postgraduate Certificate in Exotic Animal Studies in 2018. He holds the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons status of Advanced Practitioner in Zoological Medicine. Darren is also a Certified Aquatic Veterinarian through the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association.

Darren’s veterinary interests include aquatic animals, exotic animals, and wildlife. He enjoys multiple aspects of veterinary medicine. Throughout his profession, he has had the ability to care for a diverse number of species in a wide range of environments. His involvement with aquatic animal medicine includes practicing both in the areas of commercial and private collections. He frequently attends international conferences on aquatic, wildlife, and exotic animals.

Darren is currently the Director and Founder of Glenalbyn Veterinary Services. He serves as a guest lecturer at the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, where he lectures on aquatic animal veterinary medicine. He also serves as a Vet GPD Peer Reviewer for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Darren was recently elected to the council of the British Veterinary Zoological Society.

Darren is licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the United Kingdom and the States of Florida and Pennsylvania in the United States of America.
